The registry describes every token the index has seen: XLM, classic assets, custom SEP-41 contract tokens and liquidity pool shares. Use it to build a token search box, to label balances with names and decimals, and to warn users about look-alike tokens before they trust a symbol. Set these once in your terminal. The sample values are real Testnet data, so the read examples return real results.
Trimmed live response (2 of 5 records). The second token also calls itself USDC but is a different contract, so it carries impersonation_risk:

Search parameters

Results are sorted by holder_count, largest first, then by asset ID.

One token

The single-token record has the search fields plus archived_holder_count, archived_supply and archived_supply_raw, read_view and a holders link. A SAC contract ID resolves to its classic record and echoes what you asked for: GET /assets/CBIELTK6YBZJU5UP2WWQEUCYKLPU6AUNZ2BQ4WWFEIE3USCIHMXQDAMA returns "asset": "USDC:GBBD47...", "requested_as": "CBIELTK6...".

Fields

Flags

Identity is the asset ID, never the symbol. Two tokens with the same code or symbol are never merged or hidden. Before you display a token name, check issuer or contract_id, and show a warning (or hide the token) when flags contains impersonation_risk or likely_spam.

Pool shares

A pool:<64 hex> record describes a liquidity pool. Its single-token record has a pool block (live, Testnet):
fee_bp is the pool fee in basis points (30 = 0.3%).

Supply

supply is the sum of every balance of the asset that the index holds: trustlines (account balances for XLM) plus SAC and custom-token balances held in contract storage, including archived ones. It does not include claimable balances or liquidity pool reserves, so it is not the issued amount of a classic asset. Supply of a custom token is derived from its decoded storage.

Credits and errors

On Mainnet, search costs 1 credit per started 100 records and one token costs 1; Testnet requests are free (they count toward the daily Testnet cap of 10,000). Both routes are allowed for publishable keys. See errors.
